Description:

The objective is to develop and strengthen national policy and institutional capacity for sustainable land management and to contribute to achieving the national land degradation neutrality target with integrated landscape management in the north-western mountainous ecosystems of North Macedonia. Current land-use practices in Macedonia are contributing to severe land degradation, which is exacerbated by climate change and extreme weather events such as flooding. The expected positive impacts in terms of risk reduction include: 1) Strengthened legal and institutional framework and capacity building for sustainable land management and sustainable forest management; 2) Sustainable land and forest management practices for reducing the effects of land degradation in three pilot sites in the most vulnerable mountainous region implemented; 3) Knowledge management and public awareness implemented.
