Description:

This papers analised implementation of several NbS at different scales within the urban areas, such as urban forests, gardens, wetlands, infiltration trenches, and green roofs for assessing the effectiveness of NbS for water management, which varies with their design, size, and local conditions. The papers concludes that it is rather a network of connected NbS than small isolated elements that can effectively mitigate urban floods and thus contribute to enhance urban resilience, namely through adaptation to climate changes. Therefore, urban planning can play a substantial role to support the implementation of NbS and to manage tradeoffs and conflicts while assuring social equity. Governance systems must improve and legitimize the delivery of ecosystem services by reinforcing the means to prioritize and implement NbS and thus enhance sustainable development and urban resilience.
