Description:

This paper aims to address the potential impacts of shoreline change on open coast dune and estuarine-coast saltmarsh ecosystems and implications for the role of ‘nature-based’ climate change solutions. The paper objectives are to: investigate potential shoreline changes on both coasts simultaneously with incrementally rising sea levels from the current time, identify the potential implications of status quo land uses for conservation of the margins, evaluate the opportunities for ecosystem-based adaptation as an NbS with an emphasis on integration with natural hazard management and the current disaster recovery context in New Zealand.
