Description:

This paper presents an alternative adaptive methodology for the design of Nature-based Solutions for decentralized urban runoff treatment. Results show that the adoption of NbS in regions should not only rely on available technical guidelines; a detailed analysis of context-specific conditions is crucially needed, as these conditions could limit the acceptance and sustainability of NbS infrastructures. The authors of this paper recommend the promotion of NbS prototypes that include post-implementation monitoring and assessment as a useful method for knowledge generation that contributes to overcoming existing uncertainties around NbS.
