This article highlights the recent restoration of Swan Island in the Chesapeake Bay and the collaborative approach used to evaluate post-construction performance, as a framework for quantitative evaluation of NbS projects.
Two main findings of this article are:
1. Uncertainties associated with the protective capacity of Nature-based Solutions are commonly cited as one of the main barriers to implementation.
Collaborative, multidisciplinary efforts to quantify the protective benefits of NbS for coastal protection are necessary to foster widespread acceptance of NbS approaches.
