Description:

This compendium presents nature-based and ‘grey’ solutions to address climate- and water-related challenges in European cities.

It focuses on the six challenges that are most common across European cities and which can be addressed through nature-based solutions: heat stress, river flooding, surface water (or pluvial) flooding, coastal flooding, water scarcity, and poor water quality. The solutions were identified through a review of existing databases and collections – such as the Natural Water Retention Measures (NWRM) catalogue1 , Climate-ADAPT2 , the Danish portal for Climate Change Adaptation3 , and the (draft) RESIN Adaptations Options Library4 – as well as various reports and scientific publications.
