Nature-based solutions (NBS) could be defined as “actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems, that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human wellbeing and biodiversity benefits” (Cohen-Sacham, et al., 2016). NBS could be adopted to reduce disaster risks connected with forest fires. This is a key issue in Mediterranean countries, where climate change and desertification have increased the risk of forest fires and disasters, mainly caused by deforestation. With this learning scenario, students will analyse risks and propose NBS based on the data resulting from scientific research, making use of digital
competences and real-world problem-solving skills.
