ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, Europe is the European Secretariat for world’s leading network to foster a worldwide movement of local governments to achieve improvements in global sustainability through cumulative local actions in over 100+ countries. ICLEI Europe provides its members in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and West Asia with a voice on the European and international stage, a platform to connect with peers and tools to drive positive environmental, economic and social change. Nature-based solutions in cities and urban areas are a strong focus in ICLEI’s work for sustainable urban development. ICLEI’s aim is to help cities improve their overall resilience by implementing nature-based solutions and better deal with, prepare for and adapt to major challenges such as urban regeneration, climate change and natural disasters, inclusion and migration, biodiversity loss, air pollution, degradation of natural capital and ecosystem services, and water quality and scarcity.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is the world’s largest global environmental organisation, with more than 1,200 government and NGO Members and almost 16,000 volunteer experts in some 160 countries. IUCN’s work focuses on valuing and conserving nature, ensuring effective and equitable governance of its use, and deploying nature-based solutions to global challenges related to climate, food and development. IUCN supports scientific research, manages field projects all over the world, and brings governments, NGOs, the UN and the private sector together to develop policy, laws and best practice. The IUCN European Union Representative Office is located in Brussels and provides vital linkages for IUCN – its Members, National Committees, scientific Commissions and the global Secretariat - to key EU institutions and other public and private actors in the EU. Their primary role is to connect and engage in policy dialogues with European institutions, governments, civil society, NGOs, science and the business communities to improve conservation policy and action. Nature-based solutions are a key component of IUCN European Regional Office’s work.
Oppla is the EU Nature-Based Solutions Knowledge Repository: an open free platform for sharing the latest thinking and resources on natural capital, ecosystem services, nature-based solutions and related approaches. Oppla is also a community, currently comprising over 2000 members from science, policy and practice; public, private and voluntary sectors; organisations large and small, as well as individuals. Since launching in 2016, Oppla has revolutionized the way in which environmental research projects share knowledge and achieve impact.
BiodivERsA: BiodivERsA is a network of organisations that programs and funds research on biodiversity, ecosystem services and Nature-based Solutions. It operates in European countries and territories, including overseas, and increasingly with international, non-European partners. BiodivERsA-funded research produces novel findings on biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions, at a European and global scale, with concrete relevance to policy-making, both in terms of topics tackled and of tools and findings produced.
Steinbeis 2i GmbH (S2i) was founded in 2016 as a spin-off of Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ). SEZ is a not for profit organisation within Steinbeis Innovation gGmbH. S2i engages in building innovation capacities in SME’s and supporting cross-border research and technology transfer. S2i acts as Member of the Enterprise Europe Network since 2008 with close to 600 participating organisations in over 50 countries, and is a reliable and experienced partner in the network for European technology transfer, promotion of exploitable European research results and innovation capacity building.
