The benefits of having pollinators in the city are many – including higher biodiversity and increased food security thanks to pollination. Join this webinar and learn more about pollinators and why we should make sure to create cities where they feel at home. With a special focus on the European honey bee (Apis mellifera)—probably the world's most famous and beloved pollinator—the speakers of this webinar will present different ways of integrating these valuable insects into city landscapes: from installing log hives which resemble their natural habitat, to practicing eco-friendly urban beekeeping and beyond.
About the speakers:
Martin Stelter has had an exciting journey, exploring the world of startups, design agencies, and even a large corporation as a UX designer. However, his path took an unexpected turn during the challenging times of Covid, leading him into the third sector. Now, as the managing director of Stadtbienen, he passionately advocates for the protection of bee diversity, recognizing its crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Steve Rogenstein founded The Ambeessadors with a dual mission: connecting the bee community and educating the public on the importance of bees—and all pollinators—through events, research, educational programs, the arts, advocacy, and activism. Among other initiatives, he's Project Director of Honey Bee Watch (a global coalition to better understand free-living honey bee colonies), organizes symposia and conferences, co-founded BCN Honey Fest and is working to establish a honey festival in Berlin, gives talks, hosts formal honey tastings, and grows an educational pollinators' garden in Moabit, Berlin.
