About SEACURE

The project works in six demonstrator regions in Spain, Italy, and Greece to validate and scale up 16 technological and nature-based solutions up to TRL7. These solutions combine sustainable land and agricultural management practices, improved wastewater treatment, and nature restoration strategies to address nutrient pollution from agricultural and urban sources.

SEACURE evaluates the environmental, technical, economic, and social viability and impact of the tested solutions, while addressing the governance and innovation levers needed for their wider adoption: policy uptake, capacity building, awareness raising, and access to funding. Through this holistic approach, the project supports the regional upscaling of successful nutrient management strategies and their replication across other affected basins.

Project Objectives

SEACURE aims to demonstrate and scale up innovative nutrient management strategies up to TRL7, to address nutrient pollution across the land-river-sea continuum and support the regional upscaling and replication of effective approaches to:

  • reduce soil pollution and enhance its restoration;
  • reduce fertiliser use and nutrient losses;
  • prevent, minimise, and remediate nutrient pollution in freshwater and marine ecosystems.
