The European Commission has tabled an amendment to the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2026–2027, adding a new dedicated call focused on biodiversity. The draft decision is now going through the EU's comitology procedure (the formal process EU countries use to review and approve Commission implementing decisions) and can be tracked via the Comitology Register.
The amendment comes on top of the biodiversity work already funded under Cluster 6 ("Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment").
It also responds to a funding gap flagged by the Commission itself: while the EU met its goal of dedicating 7.5% of its budget to biodiversity in 2024, its more ambitious 10% targets for 2026 and 2027 are currently projected to fall short, making this new call part of an effort to close that gap.
For NbS practitioners and researchers, this points to continued, and likely growing, EU funding for ecosystem restoration, nature-positive economic transition, and NbS in the years ahead, alongside existing opportunities under Cluster 6, the EU Soil Mission, and the EU Cities Mission.
Calls stemming from this amendment will be published on the Funding & Tenders Portal once the amendment is formally adopted. Stay tuned to NetworkNature for updates as the new calls open.
