About GoNaturePositive!

Project Overview

GoNaturePositive! is a research and innovation action funded by Horizon Europe which aims to accelerate awareness and action towards a Nature-Positive Economy (NPE). At the heart of the project are six industry sector pilots piloting multi-actor collaboration towards nature-positive in the agri-food, forestry, tourism, built environment and blue economy sectors. Led by Trinity College Dublin, the project brings together 20 partners across 14 countries to transform economic systems to work in harmony with nature. Our work is supported by a global Impact Board made up of thought leaders and practitioners from across business, finance, policy, communities and indigenous people.

Objectives

  • Clarify and communicate the concept of a nature-positive economy to transform views, structures and practices towards a change in economic systems.
  • Develop indicators and metrics for a whole-of-society approach to measure progress towards a NPE
  • Bring citizens and policy makers together with business and financial actors to co-create actionable roadmaps towards the NPE for different industry sectors and at EU and global scale.

Methods

  1. Systemic Change: building on a scientific evidence base, co-create a clear framework and roadmap for the NPE, underpinned by clear indicators and metrics to measure progress.
  2. Real-World Impact: Demonstrate the potential of a Nature-Positive Economy through six pilots in agro-food, forestry, oceans, tourism, apiculture, and the built environment.
  3. Collaborative Leadership: Engage stakeholders, support nature-based enterprises and build long-term leadership through the Impact Board and partner networks.

Potential Barriers

  1. Lack of awareness and understanding among many policy makers, businesses and citizens of the high impacts and dependencies of the economy on nature and the economic, and the escalating economic risks from nature loss.
  2. Changing socio-political context in the EU, and globally, leading to de-prioritisation of climate and nature agenda.
  3. Inconsistent policy messages, such as backtracking on CSRD, leading to mixed messages for business and finance community and reduced incentives for action.
  4. Insufficient public and private investment in nature-based solutions
  5. Lack of awareness and support for alternative, community-led models of economic transformation and mission-driven nature-based enterprises.
