About Commit2Green

Project Overview

Commit2Green (C2G) is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action project that supports eight European cities in developing integrated, participatory greening strategies to achieve climate neutrality and urban resilience. The project drives a systemic shift from isolated nature-based interventions toward comprehensive, cross-scalar approaches embedded in city planning frameworks.

At its core, C2G seeks to enhance the role of nature in urban environments by aligning the supply and demand of ecosystem services through local engagement and district-level analysis. The project’s pilot sites serve as real-world testbeds for co-designed, scalable, and inclusive interventions that respond to local challenges such as heat stress, flooding, limited green access, and social inequality. By connecting district planning with city-wide strategies, C2G fosters ecological connectivity, institutional transformation, and community ownership of greening efforts.

Project Objectives

  • Involve city stakeholders in co-creating NBS visions and actions that support regeneration, equity, resilience, and climate neutrality.
  • Use C2G tools to help cities create planning guidelines and strategies for greening and renaturing, based on ecosystem thinking and ensuring connections across scales.
  • Design blue, green, and grey infrastructure solutions that boost biodiversity and apply them in each city’s demonstrator.
  • Support city-wide adoption of C2G innovations by building local capacity, enabling governance, updating policies, and guiding investments toward fair outcomes.
  • Share lessons, overcome implementation barriers, and promote EU-level replication, showing how C2G contributes to European policy and strategy goals.
