This brief explores how risk transfer mechanisms can increase financial viability for NbS investors and facilitate wider NbS uptake. NbS can also make these mechanisms more sustainable through risk reduction.evaluates The project has explored opportunities for supporting greater NbS use in the contexts of risk management, and developed recommendations applied to the following contexts: resilience of UK housing and the built environment to withstand flooding, rising wildfire risk due to climate change and land use pressures, flood risk management in Italy given increased glacial melt/precipitation, urban heat action plans in Europe.
