Resource description:
River barriers are one of the main threats to freshwater biodiversity, yet many of them are still missing from official inventories. Barrier Tracker v2, developed by Blue Rivers Foundation within the AMBER initiative, lets citizens, NGOs and practitioners help complete that gap.
What’s new in v2:
- Lateral barriers: record levees, revetments, groynes and bank walls, not just in-stream structures.
- Improved geolocation for more accurate records.
- Expert mode for users with field experience.
- Updated web platform to explore all records on the map.
- Available in multiple European languages.
Data collected through the app feeds the AMBER Barrier Atlas and can support river restoration planning under the EU Nature Restoration Law.
