PRESS RELEASE
BIOFIN-EU Project Unites 13 Partners to Tackle Biodiversity Finance Gap at Thessaloniki Plenary
May 18, 2026
The BIOFIN-EU project is holding its plenary meeting at the ONOMA Hotel in Thessaloniki, Greece, bringing together representatives from all 13 project partners across 10 European countries to review progress, strengthen collaboration, and advance innovative approaches for protecting and restoring biodiversity through mainstream finance.
Hosted by RAINNO, the meeting will take place from 26 to 28 May 2026 and gathers consortium partners involved in the development of tools, methodologies, and policy recommendations aimed at mobilising financial systems in support of biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration.
The plenary agenda combines scientific and practical sessions: partners will present project progress and key results achieved to date, demonstrate the BIOFIN-EU dashboard, hold co-creation activities, discuss next steps, present emerging scientific papers, and participate in a dedicated Dissemination and Communication session spotlighting BIOFIN-EU Learning Sites across Europe.
About BIOFIN-EU
BIOFIN-EU is a Horizon Europe-funded project focused on redirecting financial resources towards biodiversity recovery and protection by developing a unified framework that categorises Nature-based Solutions (NbS), streamlines investment processes, and integrates data analytics and underwriting tools. The project’s outcomes will identify taxonomy gaps and provide evidence-based policy recommendations for the European financial services sector, supporting the EU’s biodiversity goals.
A central output of the project, the NbS Dashboard provides a structured framework for categorising Nature-based Solutions, supporting good governance practices, and identifying suitable financial instruments and business models. The dashboard is co-designed, tested, and validated through the BIOFIN-EU Learning Sites, real-world demonstration locations that actively engage diverse stakeholders across Europe and beyond.
