Willing to develop your NetworkNature NbS knowledge skills in French? This is now possible thanks to NetworkNature’s contribution to Nouveaux Enjeux de la Nature en Ville, Regards scientifiques et témoignages d’acteurs (New Challenges of Nature in the City, Scientific perspectives and stakeholders’ testimonials). Coordinated by the CEREMA, the French Centre for Studies and Expertise on Risks, the Environment, Mobility and Urban Planning, the book is publicly available online while printed copies will be commercialised.
NetworkNature’s book chapter, written by ICLEI Europe experts Anna Bruen, Monika Heyder, Simon Racé and Shreya Utkarsh, provides insights on how the European institutions are pushing for Nature-based Solutions at the local level. It traces back the origins of the NbS concept under the aegis of the European Commission, screening the key related programmes, initiatives, policies and standards developed on the European continent.
This contribution also illustrates some best practices, showcasing some ICLEI Europe members’ initiatives. Lahti, Finland, has for example worked on “health forests” via the GoGreenRoutes project, to simultaneously improve citizens’ health and wellbeing, reduce air pollution, and tackle the urban heat island effect, demonstrating how multiple the benefits of NbS implementation are. Eventually, this chapter equips the reader with various NbS resources and platforms for cities, including ICLEI Europe’s UrbanByNature programme, the Urban Nature Plans guidance and toolkit as well as the NetworkNature NbS hubs.
