This World Habitat Day, NetworkNature highlights the crucial role of nature in times of crisis not only in our cities but for nature overall. In urban areas, green spaces cool our cities, store carbon, filter water, and provide vital habitats for biodiversity, while also contributing to the well-being of residents.
This month’s interviewee is Silvia Robertelli. Originally from Italy, Silvia is a designer and illustrator with extensive experience in communication in the environmental field; among other projects, she created the beautiful illustrations that accompany Network Nature communications.

If you’ve wrapped up a project, published a paper, received an award, or made progress on your research since July 2024, we’d love to hear about it.
NATURE-DEMO launched the Nature-based Solutions for Resilient Infrastructure Systems call for papers. The initiative invites research contributions on how nature-based solutions can enhance the resilience, adaptability and sustainability of infrastructure systems in the face of climate change and natural hazards. Open until 31 July 2026.
The NetworkNature EU 2025 Annual Event is a wrap. On 16 September, over 300 people gathered in Brussels to explore intersections and challenge points between competitiveness, prosperity, biodiversity, and business. Under the theme Choose Nature: Unlocking pathways to a resilient economy for people and the planet, the event explored how nature-based solutions can strengthen competitiveness, prosperity, biodiversity, and business.
We know Nature-based Solutions (NbS) work and can help address multiple societal challenges, but we aren’t yet financing them at scale. At present, the majority of funding for NbS comes from public sources.
