Task Force 2: Integrated Assessment Framework

Task Force 2 (TF2) is guided by the idea co-creating an integrated assessment framework. TF2 enables all nature-based solution (NbS) projects funded under Horizon 2020 to collaborate and share the benefits of their projects. The primary activity focuses on the implementation and uptake of the Handbook for Practitioners published in 2021 and has expanded to explore the development of indicators, outputs, monitoring tools and policy instruments.

Objectives:

TF2 will strengthen and centralize the evidence base for NbS: it aims to compile and synthesise evidence on the effectiveness of NbS (in achieving environmental, social and economic challenges). This evidence will help to inform decision-making and policymaking at local, regional, and national levels.

Key Activities

Four workstreams have been defined and each of them, under the coordination of a lead or co-leaders, will shape the outputs of TF2

1) Development of a Mini Handbook on biodiversity indicators -This workstream aims at improving the contents, maximising the implementation and enhancing the uptake of the handbook. As part of this workstream the taskforce is developing a mini handbook of targeted biodiversity indicators and exploring other thematic handbooks relevant to NbS.

2) Improving usability/synergy of NbS indicators - This workstream facilitates the collaboration between TF6 and TF1 capturing ideas on how the handbooks (and its indicators) are being implemented. This workstream is exploring the uptake of the handbook across relevant NbS projects. Collecting evidence and experience on the uptake of NbS indicators. Developing a dedicate subgroup to help co-ordinate discussion on the usability of indicators to TF1.

3) Consolidating evidence to support the integrated assessment framework - This workstream aims to consolidate current projects, policies and good practices across the Network nature network.  A strong foundation of good evidence is key to inform the integrated assessment framework. As part of this workstream the taskforce is collaborating with TF1s Horizon project screening process. Developing accessible databases of NbS relevant projects, Key policy instruments and best practices.

4) Guidance on NbS in Spatial Planning Processes - This workstream aims to collaborate on the guidance on NbS in spatial planning processes being developed in TF6.  Promote the co-creation of a governance approach to enhance the uptake of NbS in spatial planning. Share insights of TF members on NbS and spatial planning.
