Commission Adopts a Standardised Tool to Support National Restoration Plans Across the EU

The European Commission has adopted an Implementing Regulation establishing a standardised format for national restoration plans under the Nature Restoration Regulation, in force since August 2024. As required by Article 15(7), this uniform template—developed with the European Environment Agency—will serve as the central planning tool for Member States.

It will guide Member States in identifying and mapping areas for restoration, outlining concrete measures, defining timelines and financing strategies, and ensuring alignment with policies on biodiversity, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and climate. The Commission will support them throughout the implementation process.

This marks a critical step forward in the EU’s collective effort to support ecosystem recovery across the EU, enhance their resilience as well as the resilience of our economies, and address the impacts of climate change.
